BDO has gained a significant reinforcement, Václav Čepelák from the General Financial Directorate

BDO's Tax Litigation Department is strengthening its team with a leading expert in the tax process, who previously held a senior position in the Financial Administration. Václav Čepelák (39) joins BDO from the position of Director of the Tax Process Department of the General Financial Directorate, which he headed for more than seven years. At BDO he will be involved in all activities of the litigation department.

Václav is a well-known figure in the tax community. He personally participated in the development of a number of methodologies of the General Financial Directorate. Thus, BDO gains not only an outstanding expert, but also unique know-how, which is invaluable in tax litigation. That is why Václav will also be involved in all the disputes that our team will lead.

At the General Financial Directorate, Václav was responsible for the nationwide methodological management of tax administration. He was involved in the preparation of key projects of the Financial Administration, such as the introduction of the control report, the flat-rate tax, the introduction and subsequent abolition of the EET or the compensation bonus during the pandemic. In the framework of commenting procedures and consultations, he cooperated with the Ministry of Finance in the preparation of amendments to the Tax Code and the Act on the Financial Administration of the Czech Republic. Finally, he also represented the Czech Republic both in courts and at international conferences. 

Václav Čepelák graduated from the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. He has worked at the General Financial Directorate for more than 12 years, during which time he held various positions, ranging from an ordinary clerk, to head of department, to director of the department. He held his last appointed position for seven and a half years. He also lectures on the Tax Code at universities, publishes professional articles and gives talks at professional conferences in this field.

In his free time, he especially enjoys football, basketball, cycling and hiking. He is interested in modern history and games of all kinds.

He is looking forward to offering his knowledge and experience from his current practice and at the same time assisting BDO's clients in resolving contentious tax cases.
